Seiyō was a member of the Shijō school of Japanese painters and may have been a student of the school’s founder Goshun Matsumura. School members drew objects in a semi-accurate way, as illustrated by Seiyō in a picture book entitled Seiyō Manpitsu (i.e., Sketches by Seiyō). Pubished in 1832, this book included the seven pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown here. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
